National Alliance on Mental Illness – NAMI

This national organization provides easy to understand information about mental illnesses, mental health care, diagnosis, treatment and recovery.

Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder – CHADD

This organization provides education, advocacy and support in order to improve the lives of individuals with AD/HD.

Substance Abuse:

SAMHSA’s National Helpline

Their mission is to lead public health and service delivery efforts that promote mental health, prevent substance misuse, and provide treatments and supports to foster recovery while ensuring equitable access and better outcomes.

Eating Disorder:

National Association of Anorexia Nervosa & Associated Disorder – ANAD

ANAD provides a crisis hotline and sponsors support groups. ANAD also provides a listing of treatment providers and hospitals. Contact 847-831-3438

National Eating Disorder Association – NEDA

NEDA sponsors National Eating Disorder Awareness Week in February and a national conference. NEDA provides a parent, family and friends network and media watchdog program.

Animal and Pet Loss:

The Association for Pet Loss and Bereavement – APLB

APLB is a non-profit organization dedicated to the welfare of persons grieving for their pets and provides educational materials on bereavement and links to trained counselors.

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals – ASPCA

The ASPCA provides information on the end of life care for pets, grieving and honoring deceased pets.

American Cancer Society

Organization which provides information on diagnoses, treatment, research and general support for individuals diagnosed with cancer and their families.

The U.S. government’s principal agency for cancer research which provides the most current and comprehensive information on cancer to patients, health professionals and the general public.

Young Survival Coalition
Organization dedicated to providing support, information and advocacy for young women diagnosed with breast cancer. Addresses issues relevant to younger women including treatment options, dating and marriage, fertility and insurance issues.

Infertility:

Resolve – The National Infertility Association
Organization which provides information on diagnoses, treatment and support for those affected by infertility. Provides resources for IVF, egg/sperm donation, adoption, embryo donation and living without children.

A consumer-oriented organization providing links to the latest information on infertility diagnosis and treatment, miscarriage and pregnancy loss, adoption and financial/legal issues.

National Domestic Violence Hotline – NDVH
This organization provides a confidential and anonymous 24/7 hotline to assist those who may be experiencing partnership violence.  The NDVH web site provides warning signs to assess if you may be experiencing an abusive relationship.

The largest anti-sexual assault organization in the nation provides tips on preventing assault, legal advice, and information to assist any victim including military families.  It provides a National Sexual Assault Hotline – a 24/7 at 1 -800-656- HOPE

Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Queer/Questioning:

Human Rights Campaign- HRC
